Moroccan Authorities Resume Restoration of Historic Tinmel Mosque Following Al Haouz Earthquake

ALDAR/
Moroccan authorities have resumed restoration work on the historic Tinmel Mosque, which suffered severe damage in the devastating earthquake that struck the Al Haouz province. This initiative aims to preserve the heritage site, a remarkable symbol of the Almohad dynasty’s glorious era.
Architect Karim Rouissi was among the first to visit the site after the disaster. He captured images documenting the extent of the destruction, which quickly went viral on social media. These photographs are currently on display at the French Institute in Marrakesh until May 31.
The restoration project has been entrusted to the G3C company, under the supervision of engineer Mohamed Kortbi. Italian architect Aldo Giorgio Pezzi has been assigned to coordinate technical support. The project is being funded by the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs, reflecting the state’s commitment to safeguarding its cultural and religious landmarks.
