Morocco and the UAE: An Alliance of Loyalty in a Time of Ingratitude and Militarized Chaos

In an Arab world marked by volatility and division, certain relationships stand as models of continuity and stability—relationships that transcend short-term interests and reflect true brotherhood. Such is the case between the Kingdom of Morocco and the United Arab Emirates, whose decades-long bond has been built on mutual loyalty and cooperation. This exceptional relationship is unmarred by narrow calculations or transient disagreements.

From the very beginnings of the UAE federation, Morocco stood by its Gulf brothers, driven by a belief in shared destiny and principles. It was not mere diplomatic posturing, but a commitment rooted in the sacred ties of blood, faith, and history. In return, the UAE has never hesitated to support Morocco in its just causes—chief among them the Moroccan Sahara issue—and has consistently backed development and infrastructure projects, reflecting the spirit of genuine partnership. The memory of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, may he rest in peace, remains deeply cherished by Moroccans. He was a wise leader who built his nation’s renaissance while generously extending a hand of sincere solidarity to those around him.

In stark contrast to this civil and honorable model of diplomacy stands the military regime ruling Algeria—a system rooted in sabotage and division, one that finds satisfaction not in uplifting its people but in antagonizing its neighbors. This regime has not only isolated Algeria from its natural surroundings but has also actively financed separatist movements and led hostile media and political campaigns against Morocco. It clings to the misguided notion that destabilizing others will somehow mask its own internal failures.

Rather than extending a hand of cooperation like mature states do, the Algerian regime has chosen to double down on its historical hostility toward Morocco. It shows no regard for the principles of good neighborliness or the ideals of Maghreb unity. Instead, it continues to feed its people the illusion of an “external enemy,” while the country’s economy crumbles, freedoms are crushed, and dissenting voices are silenced.

The contrast could not be clearer: a Moroccan monarchy leading with reformist vision and developmental goals, versus an Algerian military system mired in outdated ideologies and repeated betrayals of the people’s will. As the UAE and Morocco build alliances founded on trust and shared interests, the Algerian regime immerses itself in efforts to undermine any Arab rapprochement that does not serve its generals’ agenda.

We do not engage in blind defense of any state. We stand with those who deserve it, and we criticize those who warrant it. The UAE deserves respect. Morocco earns its place with steadfast principles. As for the Algerian regime—it has chosen the path of isolation and enmity, and it will bear the consequences of that choice before history.
