China Warns: No One Wins in Trade Wars… Decoupling Leads to Isolation

In a strong message reflecting Beijing’s view of the global economic conflict, China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirmed that trade wars only result in mutual losses, warning that the path of “economic decoupling” is one fraught with isolation and economic contraction.

In official remarks issued amid rising trade and technology tensions between China and the United States, a spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry stressed that the country “does not seek confrontation, but is prepared for it if imposed.” He added, “China will not close the door to dialogue, but it will not remain passive in the face of attempts to suppress its economic rise or detach it from the global system.”

The Chinese official explained that the world is undergoing profound transformations, and that building economic walls would undermine market confidence and threaten global supply chains that are vital for development around the world. He emphasized, “Cooperation is the smarter choice, while economic confrontation is a losing gamble for all.”

These statements come amid increasing efforts by some Western powers—led by the United States—to reshape the global economic map by reducing reliance on China within supply chains, a move Beijing views as a direct threat to global economic stability.

It is worth noting that China has repeatedly called for a global economic model based on openness, integration, and multilateralism, stressing that shrinking markets and eroding trust benefit no one and only deepen crises while weakening the international economy.
