Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, received on Wednesday in Rabat the Deputy Minister attached to the Minister of State and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, in charge of Francophonie and Congolese Nationals Abroad, Crispin Mbadu Phanzu, who delivered a message to His Majesty King Mohammed VI from the President of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo.
Speaking to the press following the meeting, Mbadu Phanzu praised the strength and quality of cooperation between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, stressing that the two countries share longstanding historical ties and a partnership built on cooperation and mutual understanding.
The Congolese official explained that his visit to Morocco forms part of efforts to rally support for his country’s candidacy for the position of Secretary-General of the International Organisation of La Francophonie (OIF). He underscored the importance of strengthening coordination and consultations with friendly and partner countries in this regard.
For her part, Joalina Amato Lumumba, the Democratic Republic of the Congo’s candidate for the post of Secretary-General of the International Organisation of La Francophonie, who is accompanying Mbadu Phanzu during the visit, highlighted the deep bonds of friendship and solidarity linking Morocco and her country.
Lumumba recalled that her late father, African independence leader Patrice Lumumba, was decorated by the late King Mohammed V, describing this historical gesture as a reflection of the strong human and political ties that unite the two nations.
She also noted the convergence of views between Morocco and the Democratic Republic of the Congo on a number of issues related to solidarity, unity, integration and sovereignty, calling for the construction of “a Francophonie of the people, with the people and for the people,” in a way that strengthens cooperation and brings Francophone nations closer together.
