In a renewed affirmation of Washington’s consistent support for Morocco’s proposed autonomy initiative, Massad Boulos, Special Advisor to U.S. President Donald Trump for African Affairs, reiterated his country’s clear and unwavering position on the Moroccan Sahara issue, stating that autonomy is the only framework for negotiating a lasting and mutually acceptable solution.
In an exclusive interview with Medi 1 TV and Medi 1 Radio, Boulos emphasized that the U.S. stance is unequivocal, adding: “We have expressed this on numerous occasions, and most recently, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio reaffirmed it, confirming that the United States is committed to reaching a lasting solution without delay, based on Morocco’s autonomy initiative as the sole basis for negotiations.”
The American official clarified that this is the same position expressed by President Donald Trump to His Majesty King Mohammed VI, which includes full U.S. recognition of Morocco’s sovereignty over its southern provinces and explicit support for the Moroccan initiative as a serious and realistic option.
Boulos stressed that “any alternative interpretations or circulating information to the contrary are mere inaccurate claims with no official foundation.”
He also pointed out that the Sahara issue will be discussed in detail during his upcoming visit to Morocco, where meetings with relevant officials will take place to reinforce this approach toward a realistic political solution under the umbrella of the United Nations.
Boulos concluded by reaffirming that President Trump’s 2020 proclamation regarding the Moroccan Sahara remains in effect and reflects an official and clear position of the United States of America.
