The Central American Parliament Reaffirms Its Full Support for Morocco’s Territorial Integrity and Responds to the Maneuvers of the Kingdom’s Adversaries

ALDAR/

In a clear and resolute political stance, several members of the Central American Parliament (PARLACEN) have issued an official statement expressing their unwavering and unconditional support for the territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Morocco. This comes as a direct response to a failed attempt by some parliamentarians affiliated with separatist agendas.

Dated June 12, 2025, and issued from Guatemala City, the statement firmly refutes the positions previously expressed by some members of the left-wing group within the Parliament, who sought to pass a declaration in support of the fictitious entity known as the “Sahrawi Republic,” taking advantage of the numerical dominance of Nicaraguan MPs within the group.

The signatory MPs affirmed that Morocco is a strategic partner and friendly nation to PARLACEN, playing a pivotal role in promoting peace, development, and South-South cooperation. Morocco also acts as a dynamic bridge between Africa and Latin America through strong parliamentary and diplomatic ties.

According to the statement, support for Morocco stems not only from political considerations, but from a firm conviction in the Kingdom’s positive role in the region, and its commitment to the values of mutual respect and non-interference in the internal affairs of states—values shared by the Central American Parliament.

Exposed Maneuvers and Firm Positions

On May 28, a group of left-wing members attempted to push through a biased declaration in favor of separatist claims, without consensus among their own members. Observers considered this a political ploy led by the Nicaraguan vice-president of the group, José Antonio Zepeda, who used his country’s numerical advantage (62% of the group) to impose a text that in no way reflects the official position of the regional parliamentary institution.

In contrast, Guatemalan MPs reacted swiftly, issuing a clear statement expressing their “firm, constant, and permanent support for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the Kingdom of Morocco”, and rejecting any political or ideological exploitation of the PARLACEN platform, which they insisted must remain a neutral space for regional integration.

Ongoing Support from the Highest Levels

The significance of this support is underscored not only by the content of the statement but also by the stature of its signatories, including former Guatemalan President Alejandro Giammattei. This position is consistent with the declarations made by PARLACEN President Carlos René Hernández during his visit to Laayoune in April 2025, where he reaffirmed the Central American Parliament’s unwavering support for Morocco’s sovereignty over its entire territory.

Mr. Hernández reiterated this position again during an official visit to Rabat on May 2, 2025, stating that his delegation’s visit to Morocco’s southern provinces had further strengthened the parliamentarians’ conviction in the legitimacy of supporting the Moroccan identity of the Sahara, within a coherent vision of South-South cooperation and regional integration.

The Collapse of the Separatist Narrative

In light of these developments, many observers believe that Morocco’s adversaries are facing increasing diplomatic isolation. Their repeated and outdated ideological narratives no longer resonate with regional and international institutions. Meanwhile, Morocco continues to solidify its diplomatic gains with confidence and a clear, strategic vision that reinforces its legitimacy on the international stage.
