Spanish Judiciary: Allegations of Weapons Transfer to Israel via Tanger Med Are Mere Rumors

The Spanish judiciary has definitively put to rest a wave of rumors that had stirred controversy across social media, firmly denying any involvement of Morocco’s Tanger Med Port in the transfer of military equipment to Israel.

The story dates back to November 2024, when pro-Palestinian social media pages began circulating claims that the Moroccan port was being used as a logistical stopover in a supply chain delivering weapons to the Israeli army. These claims quickly gained traction online, particularly within Morocco, despite lacking any concrete evidence or credible sources.

In a later development, Spanish activists from the campaign “Stop Arms Trade with Israel” filed a legal complaint, alleging that a ship docked at Barcelona’s port was being used to transport military cargo along a route starting from New York, passing through Tanger Med, and ending in the Israeli port of Haifa.

However, after reviewing the complaint and examining the cargo in question, the Spanish judiciary concluded on April 16, 2025, that there was no indication to support these accusations. According to documents cited by Spanish news agency EFE, the presiding judge confirmed that the ship’s cargo was entirely civilian in nature—comprising plastic materials, canned food, electrical devices, fabrics, and glass—with no trace of military goods or war-related equipment.

The court further noted that there was no confirmed commercial exchange at Tanger Med along the ship’s route, and that neither the nature nor the final destination of the cargo could be clearly established—casting even more doubt on the credibility of the accusations.

As a result, the Spanish court’s decision has effectively closed the case, dismissing the allegations as baseless rumors unsupported by facts or documentation.
