Mysterious Assassination Attempt Targets “Amir DZ” in France amid Accusations Against Algerian Agencies

The French newspaper Le Parisien has revealed the arrest of four individuals suspected of involvement in a dangerous plot to target the Algerian activist and dissident known as “Amir DZ.” He has been residing in France for years after fleeing his home country due to his outspoken criticism of the Algerian regime and corruption cases.

According to investigations conducted by the General Directorate for Internal Security (DGSI), the four suspects allegedly attempted to carry out a kidnapping operation that, based on available information, aimed either to assassinate the dissident or forcibly return him to Algeria, where he faces a death sentence.

The incident dates back to April 2024, when the suspects impersonated police officers to abduct Amir DZ and drug him before transporting him to an unknown location. However, the operation was abruptly aborted, and he was later released in a forested area, with no explanation provided by the abductors.

Initial findings indicate that the operation was supervised by an officer in the Algerian intelligence service who was operating from within the Algerian consulate in France. The newspaper reported that the group failed to execute their plan due to lack of experience and poor organization.

What’s even more alarming is the subsequent revelation of a French Ministry of Economy employee suspected of leaking sensitive information about Algerian asylum seekers to the perpetrators—constituting a serious breach of French sovereignty and the safety of asylum seekers.

Investigations are still ongoing, with many questions being raised about the complexity of the case and the extent of foreign interference in targeting dissidents on French soil.
