U.S. Congressman Joe Wilson, co-chair of the “Moroccan Caucus in Congress,” posted a statement on the X platform praising the 250th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the United States and the Kingdom of Morocco.

In his post, Wilson highlighted Morocco’s pivotal role in American history, noting that Morocco was the first country to recognize the independence of the United States in 1777. He also underscored the significance of the partnership between the two nations in addressing challenges and seizing opportunities in the region.

Wilson stated:
“As co-chair of the Morocco Caucus, I appreciate celebrating 250 years of friendship between the United States and Morocco. In 1777, the Kingdom of Morocco became the first country to recognize the independence of the United States, and it remains a key partner in tackling opportunities and challenges in the region today.”

The U.S.-Morocco relationship is one of the oldest diplomatic ties in the world, built on a strong foundation of strategic cooperation in various fields, including security, trade, and counterterrorism. The 1786 diplomatic agreement, known as the “Moroccan-American Treaty of Peace and Friendship,” remains the oldest active treaty in U.S. history.

This milestone comes at a time when relations between the two countries continue to grow, with enhanced cooperation on regional and international issues, reflecting the deep historical friendship between Rabat and Washington.
