French Prime Minister Gabriel Attal announced Sunday evening his intention to resign to President Emmanuel Macron on Monday, following the results of the legislative elections. Attal clarified that he is ready to stay in his position “as long as duty requires” especially with France soon hosting the Olympic Games.
In his statements, made after the left dominated the legislative elections ahead of Macron’s camp and the far-right, Attal said: “I will submit my resignation to the President of the Republic tomorrow morning (Monday).” He added that as France prepares “to host the world in a few weeks” for the Olympics, “I will naturally perform my duties as long as duty requires.”
