FAAPA to Hold its General Assembly on January 22-23 in Salé

The Atlantic Federation of African Press Agencies (FAAPA) will hold, on January 22-23 in Salé, its 7th General Assembly under the theme “African information: a major sovereignty challenge”.

This event will provide an opportunity for Directors General of African press agencies, media experts and prominent figures from the African Atlantic region to explore ways of strengthening African sovereignty through information.

The proceedings of this Assembly will be structured around a panel under the theme: “African Sovereignty in Action: Perspectives on Information and the Initiative for the Atlantic region”. It will highlight the role of press agencies in general, and FAAPA in particular, in promoting information cooperation along the Atlantic coastline, supporting development initiatives in the Sahel-Atlantic region, and upholding the media sovereignty of the continent’s countries.

Furthermore, through interactive sessions, debates and the sharing of experiences, participants at this General Assembly will explore ways in which African press agencies can play a central role in asserting the sovereignty of the African continent.

The two-day General Assembly also features a major conference at the Policy Center for the New South at Mohammed VI Polytechnic University, in order to delve into the multifaceted potential of the African Atlantic and explore avenues from sustainable development to regional integration.

The General Assembly will also be marked by the presentation of the FAAPA Media Grand Prix 2022 & 2023 (best article, best video report and best photo), as well as the signing of cooperation and partnership agreements between some of the Federation’s member news agencies.

Founded in 2014 in Casablanca, the Atlantic Federation of African Press Agencies (FAAPA) is a professional platform for reflection on the future of press agencies and the role they should play in the 21st century in their respective diversities and specificities, taking into account the profound changes characterizing the media landscape in the context of globalization and in the age of multimedia
