Chief Brigadier in Rabat Faces Judicial Inquiry over Drug Trafficking

Salé’s judicial police on Friday opened a judicial inquiry, overseen by the competent public prosecutor’s office, into the involvement of a chief brigadier stationed at the public security barracks in Rabat in a case of possession and trafficking of drugs and psychotropics, said sources within the security apparatus.

The implicated individual was apprehended during a security operation in Salé, conducted in coordination with the services of the General Directorate of Territory Surveillance (DGST), as detailed by the same sources.

This operation resulted in the officer being caught red-handed with 1.5 kg of cannabis resin locally known as chira, a quantity of cannabis powder, and a sum of money suspected to be derived from drug trafficking, the sources continued. Additionally, searches conducted at the officer’s residence in Salé led to the discovery of 1,442 medical tablets spanning various categories.

The suspect is now under custody, awaiting the outcome of the investigation aimed at unraveling the intricacies of this case and shedding light on any potential ramifications stemming from this criminal act, according to the same sources.

Furthermore, the General Directorate of National Security has taken the proactive step of temporarily suspending the implicated police officer pending the investigation’s conclusion.

This measure is intended to determine the necessary administrative actions to be taken against him, the sources emphasized. Notably, a review of the officer’s administrative record revealed a history of various disciplinary measures throughout his professional trajectory.
