ONEE Denies ‘Any Responsibility’ for Mohammed V Airport Incident
ONEE states that it wishes to address the article published on September 1, 2023, by a French-language digital newspaper. Given that the content of the article holds ONEE responsible for the incident, the Office aims to offer some clarifications.
ONEE denies the information and clarifies that “the facility in which the incident occurred on Thursday, August 24, 2023 is owned by the National Airports Office (ONDA), as per the contractual limits of ownership between ONEE and ONDA,” according to the source.
ONEE also maintains that the power outage was not caused by “the explosion of ONDA’s metering equipment,” but rather “a short circuit caused by an ONDA technician who worked on the equipment without following necessary safety precautions and maneuvers required for such tasks.”
Work on this type of installation must be performed with the voltage disconnected to ensure the safety of the operator, according to the same source.
Additionally, ONEE notes that ONDA personnel are in charge of operating and controlling the electrical equipment at its electrical post, which provides power to the facilities at Mohammed V airport in Casablanca.
“ONEE regrets this tragic incident and offers its condolences to the family of the deceased and to the ONDA staff,” the statement concludes.
