Morocco and Suriname reaffirmed on Thursday their firm commitment to further strengthening bilateral cooperation for the benefit of both governments and their peoples.

“The Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Suriname reaffirmed their firm commitment to further strengthening bilateral cooperation for the benefit of both governments and their peoples,” said a joint statement signed by Melvin Bouva, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Business and Cooperation of the Republic of Suriname, and Mr. Nasser Bourita, Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates, following their talks in Rabat.

During the meeting, the two ministers welcomed the close ties of brotherhood, friendship, and solidarity between the two countries, expressing their deep satisfaction with the level of relations, the statement added, noting that Minister Bouva has held “fruitful discussions on topics of common interest with his Moroccan counterpart.”

In this context, the two ministers “welcomed the current level of bilateral relations and the achievements under the cooperation roadmaps for the periods 2017–2021 and 2021–2024” and reviewed prospects for future bilateral cooperation to meet the aspirations and ambitions of the two friendly countries.

The two foreign ministers signed the cooperation roadmap for the period 2026–2028, as well as two cooperation agreements between diplomatic academies, and in the field of renewable energy.

They also highlighted “the significant economic potential of both countries and reaffirmed their unwavering commitment to developing a mutually beneficial economic partnership and increasing trade exchanges.”

In this regard, they agreed to promote a more favorable environment for mutual investments and to encourage the business communities of both countries to fully exploit the opportunities offered by the growth of their markets and the development of their infrastructure.
The statement further notes that Morocco welcomes the vision and strategic leadership of H.E. Jennifer Simons, the first female President of the Republic of Suriname, particularly regarding “access to climate financing for countries with high forest cover and low deforestation rates,” as well as “her efforts for the socio-economic development of Suriname and its population, and more broadly, the Caribbean region.”

Bouva is on an official visit to Rabat, his first since his appointment as Minister of Foreign Affairs in July 2025.
