Chinese Ambassador Urges “Huawei Morocco” to Expand Investments and Support the Kingdom’s Digital Transformation

By Meryem Hafiani

In a move that reflects the strength of the strategic partnership between Rabat and Beijing, China’s ambassador to Morocco, You Jinsheng, has called on Huawei Morocco to boost its investments and step up its contribution to the digital transformation momentum underway in the Kingdom. She noted that Morocco has become a promising regional platform in the fields of innovation and advanced technologies.

During her meeting with executives of the Moroccan branch of the Chinese tech giant, the ambassador highlighted the remarkable development of Morocco’s digital infrastructure, combined with the country’s ambitious vision for artificial intelligence, smart cities, and the expansion of digital public services. These advances, she said, pave the way for deeper and more impactful partnerships. She stressed that Huawei possesses the expertise needed to support these efforts, not only through telecommunications equipment but also through training Moroccan talent and empowering tech-oriented start-ups.

This call comes amid growing cooperation between Morocco and China, particularly following the signing of several agreements in telecommunications, renewable energy, and digital infrastructure. Over the past decade, Huawei Morocco has become one of the key players in the national telecom market, contributing to the development of 4G and 5G networks and launching youth-focused programs such as Seeds for the Future and advanced technology training workshops.

Strengthening Huawei’s presence aligns with Morocco’s strategic vision of establishing itself as a digital gateway to Africa, supported by major investments in data centers, cybersecurity, and e-government development. The backing of major international companies, including Huawei, serves as a crucial driver for accelerating the transition toward a smarter and more innovative economy.

Through the statements of its ambassador, Beijing reiterates its support for technological cooperation with Morocco, expressing its readiness to accompany the Kingdom’s major digital projects, including youth skills development, improved digital service quality, and attracting significant tech investments from East Asia.

With this trajectory, Morocco appears determined to solidify its position as a regional leader in digital transformation, while global companies—foremost among them Huawei—prepare to play a pivotal role in this rapidly evolving dynamic.
