As part of efforts to strengthen bilateral relations between Morocco and the United Kingdom, Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Mr. Nasser Bourita, held talks today in Rabat with the UK Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs, Mr. David Lammy.

This high-level diplomatic meeting provided an opportunity for both officials to exchange views on a number of regional and international issues, with particular focus on the Moroccan Sahara.

Mr. David Lammy reiterated his country’s clear and consistent support for Morocco’s autonomy initiative, describing it as the only realistic, serious, and pragmatic solution to achieve a lasting resolution to the regional dispute.

He also underscored the UK’s firm commitment to respecting Morocco’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, while commending the Kingdom’s efforts to promote stability and development in its southern provinces.

The talks further explored prospects for economic cooperation and investment in the southern regions of Morocco. The United Kingdom expressed its readiness to support major development projects in the area, reinforcing its interest in contributing to growth and shared prosperity.

This visit comes at a time when international momentum is increasingly shifting in favor of Morocco’s position, with growing global support for the autonomy initiative in major capitals around the world.

Through this meeting, the United Kingdom reaffirmed its role as a strategic partner to Morocco and its clear stance within international forums — particularly the United Nations Security Council — in favor of a solution rooted in realism and respect for national sovereignty.

The discussions between Mr. Bourita and Mr. Lammy reflect the strength of the Moroccan-British partnership and the rising international endorsement of a political solution to the Sahara conflict within the framework of Morocco’s territorial integrity.
