Paraguay Recognizes Morocco’s Sovereignty over the Sahara and Announces Plans to Open a Consulate in the Southern Provinces

Paraguay’s Foreign Minister, Mr. Rubén Ramírez Lezcano, announced following a meeting with Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Abroad, Mr. Nasser Bourita, that his country officially recognizes Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara. He reaffirmed Paraguay’s support for Morocco’s sovereignty over its entire territory, including the southern provinces.

Mr. Ramírez Lezcano indicated that the Paraguayan government intends to open a consulate in these southern provinces soon, as part of efforts to strengthen diplomatic relations and bilateral cooperation. Speaking to the press, he stated: “We support Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara and plan to open a Paraguayan consulate in this region shortly.”

The minister also revealed an upcoming visit by the President of Paraguay, H.E. Mr. Santiago Peña Palacios, to Morocco, as well as his own planned visit to the Kingdom before the end of the year, signaling the commitment of both countries to deepen their partnership across all levels.

This move comes as part of ongoing support from several American and European countries for Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara and reflects Paraguay’s growing interest in expanding diplomatic, trade, and investment ties with the Kingdom.
