In a statement following his participation in the extraordinary session of the League of Arab States, held today in Cairo to discuss developments in the Palestinian issue, Nasser Bourita, Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Abroad, acting on the instructions of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist him, President of the Al-Quds Committee, reaffirmed Morocco’s firm position on the Palestinian issue.

The minister explained that the session took place in difficult and complex circumstances, where the Israeli aggression on Gaza has lasted for over a year and a half, leading to widespread destruction and significant human losses. Despite the announcement of a ceasefire, its fragility and the challenges it faces add to the ongoing pressure on the situation in the region. He also mentioned the uncertainty surrounding the various ideas and initiatives concerning Gaza’s future, which further complicates the Palestinian situation.

Bourita outlined the key elements of Morocco’s position, as established by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, emphasizing that Gaza and the West Bank are an integral part of Palestinian territory, and that the Palestinian people are the only ones who have the right to determine their own destiny. He also stressed that the Palestinian Authority is the only entity authorized to make decisions regarding Gaza’s future and how to manage it.

The minister also addressed the necessity of stabilizing the ceasefire first, to ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid before moving to the reconstruction phase. He affirmed that reconstruction is not limited to technical and financial aspects but requires a comprehensive political vision accompanied by the cessation of hostilities and the initiation of a new phase of peace rhetoric, which would contribute to the success of the process and the achievement of tangible results.

Regarding Jerusalem, Bourita reaffirmed Morocco’s commitment to maintaining the legal and historical status of the city and supporting the steadfastness of Jerusalemites in these difficult circumstances. He also emphasized that the final statement of the summit, the “Cairo Declaration,” reflects strong support for the Al-Quds Committee headed by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, as well as appreciation for the role of the Bayt Mal Al-Quds Agency in supporting the Palestinians.

Bourita concluded his statement by emphasizing the importance of Palestinian unity and the creation of a political horizon to resolve the Palestinian issue, calling for international support for the reconstruction plan according to a comprehensive political vision that leads to a two-state solution, with the establishment of a Palestinian state on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
