Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita met Friday in Beijing with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi, marking a significant step in strengthening the strategic partnership between the two countries. The meeting continues the momentum established since King Mohammed VI’s visit to China in 2016.
Discussions focused on economic development, with particular attention to the revision of the 1995 Agreement on the Promotion and Reciprocal Protection of Investments, aimed at boosting Chinese investment in Morocco and consolidating industrial partnerships. Priority sectors include infrastructure, industry, energy, innovation, digitization, and renewable energy, alongside triangular cooperation targeting Africa.
Morocco positions itself as a key regional platform for Sino-African and Arab cooperation, benefiting from political stability, strategic location, and advanced infrastructure. The ministers also agreed to strengthen cultural, academic, and tourism exchanges, while coordinating their positions on regional and international issues, including national sovereignty and the fight against separatism and extremism.
The visit concluded with the signing of a memorandum of understanding establishing a strategic dialogue mechanism, aimed at deepening political consultation and exploring new cooperation opportunities. This initiative reflects the two countries’ commitment to a strong strategic partnership and to contributing to a more balanced and inclusive international order.
