Bourita: Morocco Prioritizes Stability and Development in the Euro-Mediterranean Space

Rabat / Kulthum Idboferad

Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, affirmed today in Rabat, during a high-level retreat on the future of Euro-Mediterranean relations, that the Mediterranean region faces existential challenges requiring a unified vision and balanced cooperation between Northern and Southern countries.

Bourita highlighted that Morocco, thanks to its strategic location and diverse investments, possesses the legitimacy to contribute to reshaping the future of the region, making it a stable and prosperous space.

The minister explained that building an integrated Euro-Mediterranean space encounters several obstacles, notably the lack of a clear shared identity, the imbalance between the North and South of the Mediterranean, and the persistence of political divisions instead of fostering unity. He also pointed to the limited crisis management by states, citing the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic and the war in Gaza, which exposed weaknesses in collective response and affected stability and balanced development, including employment and climate issues.

In this context, Bourita emphasized the directives of King Mohammed VI, which place clarity and respect at the core of Morocco’s foreign policy. He reiterated the Kingdom’s commitment to transforming these challenges into tangible opportunities on the ground, and to enhancing dialogue to reshape a fair and balanced Euro-Mediterranean space that serves security, stability, and shared development.
