China Criticizes Washington’s Escalation of Tariffs and Calls for Fair Trade Based on Cooperation

In a decision that has sparked widespread controversy, the United States has escalated its trade measures by imposing new tariffs on several of its trading partners, with China being the most prominent. Beijing has considered this move a blatant violation of global trade rules and a threat to the stability of the international economy.

The Chinese government expressed its strong rejection of this policy, describing it as “selfish and unilateral,” and emphasized that the use of tariffs as a tool of political and economic pressure reflects a shift towards economic hegemony, far from the principle of mutual cooperation that should govern relations between countries.

Beijing views these U.S. measures as not serving the global economy, but rather undermining the multilateral trading system led by the World Trade Organization (WTO), and harming the legitimate interests of countries, especially those that rely on openness and market integration.

China confirmed that it will not stand idly by in the face of such practices, stressing its determination to protect its national interests and economic sovereignty by all legitimate means. At the same time, it reaffirmed its commitment to policies of openness and enhancing a business environment based on transparency and the rule of law, calling on the international community to unite against protectionist tendencies that threaten all economies.

Beijing also emphasized that economic growth is a right for all countries, not an exclusive privilege for a few major powers, and called for fair international consultations leading to a more balanced and just economic system.

In conclusion, China expressed confidence that the majority of countries will stand on the side of justice, calling for the rejection of unilateral policies and economic hegemony, and for collective action to create a more cooperative and participatory world.
