The U.S. capital, Washington D.C., is preparing to host a high-level U.S.–Africa summit from July 9 to 11, which is expected to bring together former President Donald Trump and five African heads of state. Speculation is growing about the possible participation of Moroccan King Mohammed VI in this event.
According to Africa In French, the three-day summit will focus on strategic issues related to economic and security cooperation between the United States and several African nations. This initiative comes at a time when Africa’s importance is growing on the global stage, as it becomes a key partner in matters of regional security and sustainable development.
Although there has been no official confirmation yet from the Moroccan side, the circulation of King Mohammed VI’s name among the list of invited leaders has sparked considerable interest in diplomatic circles. This is due to Morocco’s pivotal role on the continent and the strength of Rabat-Washington relations—particularly following the United States’ recognition of Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara in 2020.
If it does take place, this meeting would be an opportunity to further strengthen the Moroccan-American partnership across several areas—especially amid the rapid geopolitical shifts occurring in the Maghreb and West Africa. In this context, Morocco stands out as a key player in addressing security challenges, particularly those related to counterterrorism and irregular migration.
The summit is expected to include closed-door sessions to discuss joint investment projects in infrastructure and energy, as well as regional security coordination, given the rising threats in the Sahel and Sahara region.
As the official list of participating leaders has yet to be announced, all eyes remain on Rabat, awaiting confirmation—or denial—of King Mohammed VI’s participation in this significant diplomatic event.
