Under the patronage of the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Morocco, Mr. Li Changlin, and the Moroccan Ministry of Youth, Culture, and Communication, the Chinese Cultural Center in Rabat organized an exceptional performance of the children’s play The Bird, the Shell, and the Fish on Sunday, May 11, 2025. The play was staged at the Mansour Theater in Rabat by the National Children’s Theatre of China.
This poetic and symbol-rich work, filled with deep human lessons, captivated both young and adult audiences in Morocco. Its innovative direction, enchanting visual elements, and universal messages about friendship, diversity, and peaceful coexistence in a changing world drew great attention.
In his speech on the occasion, the Chinese Ambassador to Morocco, Mr. Li Changlin, emphasized the importance of this cultural initiative, which reflects the two countries’ shared desire to strengthen their cooperation through art and education. He stated: “Theatre, as a universal language, brings people closer together beyond linguistic and cultural differences.” He added that the play, which has already been performed in Tetouan and Rabat, will continue its tour in other cities, highlighting its silent nature—yet rich with meaning and symbolism that resonates with both children and adults.
The performance is part of the 2024–2028 Executive Program for Cultural Cooperation signed between the Kingdom of Morocco and the People’s Republic of China. It also reflects the dynamism of bilateral exchanges in the artistic and educational fields and the mutual interest in offering high-quality cultural experiences to the younger generation.
Through this initiative, the Chinese Cultural Center in Rabat reaffirms its pivotal role in promoting intercultural dialogue and making theatre a bridge between civilizations. The event also highlights Morocco’s growing role as a cultural exchange hub between China, the Arab world, and Africa.
