In a Letter to Nasser Bourita… Niger Commends Morocco’s Initiative to Promote Dialogue and Stability in Africa

In an official letter addressed to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Residing Abroad, Nasser Bourita, Niger’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bakary Yaou Sangaré, praised Morocco’s presidency of the African Union’s Peace and Security Council, congratulating the Kingdom on its firm commitment to supporting peace and strengthening dialogue among African nations.

Sangaré stated that Morocco’s leadership of this council will positively contribute to addressing the security and political challenges facing the continent, particularly in the Sahel region, where the need for constructive diplomatic efforts remains urgent to enhance stability.

The Nigerien minister also commended Morocco’s initiative to hold informal consultations with Sahel countries and African states undergoing transitions, considering it a step that reflects Morocco’s clear vision for finding effective solutions to the crises affecting the continent. He affirmed that this initiative provides an opportunity for dialogue among the concerned states, contributing to enhanced cooperation and mutual understanding while supporting their gradual return to the African Union’s institutions in a manner based on mutual respect and democratic principles.

This Moroccan dynamic aligns with the provisions of Article 8 (Paragraph 11) of the Protocol of the African Union’s Peace and Security Council, which allows for informal meetings with parties involved in crises discussed by the Council. This demonstrates Morocco’s commitment to providing a space for constructive dialogue among African nations to reach consensual political solutions.

This growing recognition from African capitals, including Niamey, reflects the leading role Morocco has come to occupy on the continent. Under the enlightened leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist him, the Kingdom continues its approach based on solidarity and cooperation to strengthen security, stability, and development in Africa.
