Morocco Moves to Classify “Polisario” as a Terrorist Organization within the African Union

ALDAR/
Morocco has initiated efforts within the African Union to push for the classification of the “Polisario” as a terrorist organization, citing a history of hostile operations carried out by the group over the years.
This move comes amid growing evidence linking “Polisario” to smuggling networks and extremist groups operating in the Sahel and Sahara region. International reports confirm that elements of the group have been involved in illegal activities, ranging from arms and drug trafficking to collaboration with terrorist organizations active in the area.
This initiative is part of a broader diplomatic strategy led by Morocco within the African Union, aimed at exposing the true nature of the group, which has long sought to portray itself as a “liberation movement” while engaging in practices that threaten regional stability.
Morocco’s efforts have gained support from several African nations that face similar threats from armed groups operating under political cover. The classification of “Polisario” as a terrorist organization would strengthen counterterrorism efforts across the continent and limit the group’s support from certain regional actors.
Through its diplomatic actions, Morocco continues to raise international awareness about the dangers posed by this organization, urging the global community to take a firm stance against it in line with international counterterrorism efforts and the pursuit of regional stability.
