Lisbon: Portuguese President Receives Moroccan Head of Government

President of the Portuguese Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, received, Thursday at the presidential palace in Lisbon, the Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch.

Akhannouch was accompanied by Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, and the Moroccan ambassador to Portugal, Othmane Bahnini.

Leading a large delegation, Akhannouch will chair Friday, alongside the Portuguese Prime Minister, Antonio Costa, the 14th High Level Meeting (HLM), which is held under the theme “Morocco-Portugal: Confirmation of an exemplary strategic partnership”.

The Moroccan delegation includes Minister of Economy and Finance, Nadia Fettah Alaoui, Minister of Economic Inclusion, Small Business, Employment and Skills, Younes Sekkouri, Minister of Tourism, Handicrafts and Social Economy, Fatim-Zahra Ammor, and Minister of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Innovation, Abdellatif Miraoui.

The delegation is also composed of Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, Laila Benali, Minister of Transport and Logistics, Mohamed Benabdeljalil, Minister of Youth, Culture and Communication, Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid, and Minister Delegate to the Head of Government in charge of Investment, Convergence and Evaluation of Public Policies, Mohcine Jazouli.

This HLM will be an opportunity to consolidate bilateral relations, in enshrinement of the royal vision to make Portugal one of the top ten partner countries to the Kingdom.

It reflects, to this end, the constant determination of the two neighboring countries to continue their cooperation, in order to expand partnerships in all areas, including the economy and sectoral cooperation. Rabat and Lisbon also aspire to boost trade, explore new areas of cooperation and explore the horizons of a multi-faceted and strategic partnership reflecting the strength of ties between the two countries, in order to meet the regional challenges they face.

The proceedings of this meeting will be marked by the signing of a range of cooperation agreements in several areas.

On the sidelines of this HLM, an economic forum Portugal-Morocco will be held at the initiative of the Confederação Empresarial de Portugal (CIP), the Agência para o Investimento e Comércio Externo of Portugal (AICEP), the Moroccan Employers’ Association (CGEM) and the Moroccan Agency for the Development of Investment and Exports (AMDIE). The meeting will be an opportunity to exchange on the levers to activate to further strengthen economic and trade cooperation between the two countries.
