12,000 Moroccan students and 150,000 Chinese tourists.. Chinese ambassador highlights growing cultural and people-to-people ties with Morocco

Chinese Ambassador to Morocco Yu Jinsong highlighted the growing cultural, people-to-people and tourism cooperation between Rabat and Beijing during a speech delivered on the occasion of the celebration of the 77th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, held on Thursday, September 17, 2026, at the Congress Palace in Salé.
The ambassador said that more than 12,000 Moroccan students are currently studying in China, making Morocco the leading African country in terms of the number of students pursuing their studies there. She also highlighted the growth in tourism exchanges between the two countries, noting that around 150,000 Chinese tourists visited Morocco in 2025.
In this context, Yu Jinsong highlighted several initiatives reflecting the diversity of cultural exchanges between Morocco and China, including the Kingdom’s participation as guest of honor at the “Silk Road Week 2026,” where more than 50 pieces of traditional Moroccan clothing were presented, as well as the organization of screenings of Chinese films in Rabat.
The ambassador also highlighted the presence of Moroccan cinema in China, noting that the Moroccan film “Halima” won two awards at the Shanghai International Film Festival. She said such initiatives contribute to strengthening rapprochement and mutual understanding between the Moroccan and Chinese peoples.
Concluding her speech, Yu Jinsong affirmed that Morocco-China relations will continue to develop in line with the orientations set by Chinese President Xi Jinping and King Mohammed VI. She expressed her confidence that cooperation between the two countries will produce further tangible results, serving the interests of both peoples and contributing to peace and prosperity at the regional and international levels.
