The President of the Mercosur Parliament (Parlasur), Mr. Rodrigo Gamarra, highlighted on Tuesday in Rabat the interest of this South American grouping in the Kingdom of Morocco, considered “a bridge to the Arab world and Africa.”

In a press statement following his talks with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates, Mr. Nasser Bourita, Gamarra affirmed that the relations between Parlasur and Morocco are of vital importance, describing the Kingdom as a brotherly country and a gateway to the Arab world and Africa.

He welcomed the “very fruitful” discussions with Mr. Bourita, noting that such meetings provide an opportunity to bring perspectives closer together and examine issues of common interest for both Africa and South America.

In this regard, he emphasized the fundamental role of parliamentary diplomacy, reaffirming Parlasur’s willingness to serve as a channel to strengthen Morocco’s relations with the countries of this South American grouping.

Furthermore, Mr. Gamarra recalled, in his capacity as a member of the Paraguayan Parliament, his country’s position supporting United Nations Security Council Resolution 2797, which clearly backs Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara, describing this resolution as “a relevant milestone and a way to resolve a conflict that has lasted far too long.”
