The resumed 165th Ordinary Session of the Council of the League of Arab States at the ministerial level opened on Monday in the Jordanian capital, Amman, with the participation of the Kingdom of Morocco, represented by a high-level delegation led by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita.

The Moroccan delegation also includes Morocco’s Ambassador to the Arab Republic of Egypt and Permanent Representative to the Arab League, Mohamed Aït Ouali, Morocco’s Ambassador to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, Fouad Akhrif, Director of Maghreb, Arab and Islamic Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Khalid Bencheikh, and Deputy Permanent Representative of the Kingdom to the Arab League, Hicham Ould Esslaï.

This session follows the 165th Ordinary Session of the Arab League Council at the ministerial level, which was held on March 29, 2026, via videoconference under the chairmanship of the Kingdom of Bahrain.

Arab foreign ministers are discussing a number of Arab and regional issues on the agenda, as well as recent developments across the region and ways to coordinate Arab positions on matters of common interest. The meeting aims to strengthen joint Arab action and address the challenges currently facing the region.

Among the key issues under consideration is the approval of the appointment of former Egyptian Foreign Minister Nabil Fahmy as the new Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, following a mandate from Arab leaders. Fahmy is expected to officially assume his duties at the beginning of next July, succeeding Ahmed Aboul Gheit, whose term expires at the end of this month. The ministers are also expected to discuss the appointment of several heads of Arab League missions abroad.

Prior to the opening of the official session, Arab foreign ministers held a closed consultative meeting at the invitation of Jordan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Ayman Safadi. The meeting focused on coordinating Arab positions and reviewing the various sensitive issues and files included on the session’s agenda.
