On the morning of April 15, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and President of the People’s Republic of China, Xi Jinping, along with General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, To Lam, and Vietnamese President, Luong Cuong, met with representatives participating in the Chinese-Vietnamese People’s Friendship Meeting, held at the Hanoi International Convention Center.
The three leaders were warmly welcomed with a round of applause from attendees representing various sectors of society who have contributed to strengthening relations between the two countries. President Xi delivered a speech titled “Championing Good-Neighborliness and Friendship, and Jointly Writing a New Chapter of a Shared Future,” in which he expressed deep appreciation for the representatives of both nations. He emphasized that the roots of China-Vietnam relations lie in people-to-people support, and praised the long-standing solidarity between the two countries, from their struggles for independence to their shared journey of modernization.
Xi Jinping stressed that the China-Vietnam friendship was born from mutual support, deepened through joint struggles, and flourished thanks to cooperation between their peoples. He added that this friendship, marked by a spirit of “camaraderie and brotherhood,” has been reinforced by the implementation of global initiatives on development, security, and civilization, as well as by both countries’ steadfast defense of international justice.
The Chinese President pointed out that the youth represent the future of this relationship. He announced that, over the next three years, China would invite Vietnamese youth to participate in “red study tours” to China, enabling them to explore the shared revolutionary heritage and experience Chinese modernization firsthand. This initiative aims to empower young people to contribute to building a shared future that serves the interests of both nations.
For his part, To Lam highlighted the significance of the meeting, especially as it coincides with Xi Jinping’s historic visit to Vietnam and the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, along with the Year of People-to-People Exchanges. He expressed Vietnam’s gratitude for China’s selfless support throughout its struggle for independence and development, describing the building of a strategically significant community with a shared future as a key step toward global peace and progress.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the three leaders visited a photo exhibition commemorating the 75th anniversary of China-Vietnam diplomatic ties, before officially launching the “red study tours” program. They also attended the inauguration ceremony of the China-Vietnam railway cooperation mechanism.
Several senior Chinese officials were present at the event, including Cai Qi, Wang Yi, and Wang Xiaohong.
