Algerian Intelligence Behind the Hoax of Kidnapping a Spanish Citizen and His Release in Cooperation with “Terrorists” from the Azawad Liberation Front

Sources point to the involvement of Algerian intelligence agencies in a staged kidnapping aimed at funding terrorist groups. The incident relates to the “kidnapping” of a Spanish citizen near Tamanrasset in Algeria, which has raised profound questions about the intentions of the parties involved in this case, according to information revealed by the media outlet AESinfo.

The major paradox lies in the illogical speed with which the hostage was freed. Typically, hostage releases require long and complex negotiations, but in this case, the operation unfolded in a manner that raises doubts, almost as if it were a performance lacking any credibility.

According to the information, the operation was meticulously orchestrated. The Spanish citizen was kidnapped along with his driver and translator, and taken to the border between Algeria and Mali, specifically to the Tinzawaten area. The driver and translator were released, while the “kidnappers”—who later turned out to be accomplices in the crime—were transported to Mali in an attempt to conceal the crime’s traces.

The goal of this plan was clear: to obtain a large ransom to finance terrorist activities, particularly those related to the Azawad Liberation Front (FLA), which is involved in destabilizing Mali. Sources indicate that the Algerian intelligence services transferred a significant sum of money to the “fake kidnappers” through a prominent member of the Azawad Liberation Front, Mohamed Ag Atayi, who is close to Hassan Ag Fagha. The hostage was handed over to the latter, who was supposed to pass him on to those responsible for the operation—the Algerian intelligence agencies.

This case highlights the accusations made by Mali’s Prime Minister, Abdoulaye Maiga, regarding Algeria’s controversial role in the region. In addition to the “hospitality” Algeria extends to terrorists and separatists, often described as “serving shakshuka and delicious soup,” Algeria is now publicly accused of financing terrorism through such fraudulent operations. This incident casts a shadow on the image of a state that actively supports destabilizing its neighbors, opening the door to further questions about the actions of the Algerian regime. The case remains under surveillance.
