Amy Cutrona, a senior member of the U.S. diplomatic corps, officially assumed her duties today, Monday, as Chargé d’Affaires at the U.S. Embassy in Morocco. She succeeds Ambassador Puneet Talwar, who concluded his more than two-year tenure in the Kingdom.

Cutrona previously served as Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Rabat since July 2022. Before that, she held prominent positions in Washington, D.C., including Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for the Levant and Director of the State Department’s Office of Levant Affairs. She was also Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Bahrain from 2016 to 2019.

Her diplomatic career, which began in 1999, includes assignments in Addis Ababa (Ethiopia), El Salvador, Qatar, and Egypt, as well as several roles in Washington. She holds a degree from Smith College and a Master’s in International Relations and Conflict Management from Johns Hopkins University.

The United States and Morocco share a deeply rooted partnership dating back to 1777, when Morocco became the first country to recognize U.S. independence. Today, this relationship spans multiple areas, including regional security, shared economic prosperity, and addressing developmental challenges. Morocco is a major non-NATO ally of the U.S. and the only African country with a free trade agreement with the United States.

The United States recognizes and values Morocco’s growing role as a key partner in promoting regional stability, advancing global trade, and serving as a hub for industries and technological innovation.
