Key point of the speech of MFA Nasser Bourita during the High-Level Meeting on Leveraging Education to Combat Anti-Semitism and Hate Speech

1. Since the Second World War, coexistence has never been so threatened as it is today. Never has racial, religious or national hate speech been so commonplace and commonplace.

2. As His Majesty the King said on the occasion of the visit of His Holiness Pope Francis to Morocco in March 2019: « To tackle radicalism, the solution is neither military nor financial; that solution has but one name: Education ».
3. If intolerance and violence originate in the mind, it is first and foremost in the mind that they must be fought.

4. The Sovereigns of Morocco are the Commanders of the Believers; all believers. His Majesty King Mohammed VI has always defended the heritage of His ancestors, out of conviction and loyalty, promoting coexistence between Moroccan Muslims and Jews, and enshrining the plural Moroccan identity in the very body of the Kingdom’s Constitution.

5. It’s an ongoing battle that relies on strong leadership and concrete actions such as the Sovereign’s inauguration in January 2020 of “Bayt Dakira”, for the preservation and enhancement of Moroccan-Jewish memory, as well as the restoration of street names and neighborhoods with links to Morocco’s Jewish heritage.

6. I’m proud to come from a country, Morocco, genetically endowed with tolerance and the ability to live together. This thousand-year-old Kingdom has been, is and will remain a place of freedom, cultural cross-fertilization and the meeting of civilizations.

7. Convinced of the importance of pedagogy as a lever against the tragic illusions of religious, racial and national hatred, Morocco is already preparing the future of education. An education that prepares for citizenship, ethics and the universal values of tolerance and living together.
