Georgieva : WB-IMF Annual Meetings Opportunity to Showcase Morocco’s Economic Experience

The annual meetings of the World Bank Group (WB) and the International Monetary Fund (IMF), scheduled for next October in Marrakech, are an opportunity to highlight Morocco’s economic experience, IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva said on Tuesday.

Morocco’s economic experience deserves to be shared and replicated in other IMF member countries, stressed Georgieva, during a meeting with Moroccan and foreign students at Cadi Ayyad University (UCA), scheduled on the occasion of her visit to Marrakech, as part of a working visit to the Kingdom.

Georgieva’s visit to Morocco is part of the preparations for the WB-IMF Annual Meetings, the first in the Arab world.

During her meeting with UCA students, the IMF Managing Director said that the delegations expected to attend the forthcoming Meetings would have the opportunity to learn from the Kingdom’s major achievements in the economic sector, pointing out that Morocco is the first African country to obtain the flexible credit line against economic shocks, granted by the IMF.

In this respect, she emphasized the relevance of the New Development Model (NMD), as well as the economic dynamic set in motion in Morocco, adding that the Kingdom would be highlighting its accumulated economic achievements at the forthcoming WB-IMF Annual Meetings.

Georgieva also pointed out that the WB-IMF Annual Meetings, to be held in the Kingdom, a crossroads of civilizations and cultures, would undoubtedly provide a real opportunity for networking and the exchange of expertise and experience between international economic players, inviting young people to take part en masse in this high-profile international gathering.

She also expressed her delight at the meeting she had with members of the national football team in Rabat, praising the remarkable achievement of the Atlas Lions at the World Cup in Qatar.

The organization of this event on African soil “will make us all ambassadors” for the Kingdom in Africa, and “enable us” to give a glimmer of hope to all African countries, she said, recalling that Africa is endowed with a young human capital capable of meeting economic challenges with such determination, perseverance and optimism.
