Mali hails Morocco’s “leadership” in establishing the African Convention on the Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration of Child Soldiers

In a statement to the press following the ceremony marking the signing phase of this Convention, Wednesday in New York, Diop described this legal instrument, «developed and conceived by Africans, » as « important ».

Mali, he said, was pleased to be “fully involved” in the Convention, emphasizing that the instrument provides an “appropriate framework” for the exchange of experience and best practices among the various countries of the continent.

Around twenty African States inaugurated the signing phase of the African Convention on the Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration of Child Soldiers at ministerial level on Wednesday in New York, during a ceremony chaired by Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita.

The event took place at the headquarters of the Permanent Mission of the Kingdom of Morocco to the United Nations, on the sidelines of the high-level week of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.
