Paraguay Reaffirms in New York Its Support for Morocco’s Sovereignty over the Sahara and Works to Consolidate Its Position at the UN

Paraguayan Minister of Foreign Affairs Rubén Darío Ramírez Lezcano reaffirmed on Wednesday in New York his country’s support for Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara.

Speaking to the press following talks with Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, Mr. Ramírez Lezcano stressed that “Paraguay has recognized Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara, and we are working at the United Nations level to reach a resolution that consolidates this position.”

Paraguay officially recognized Morocco’s sovereignty over its Sahara in September 2025, during a meeting between Mr. Ramírez Lezcano and Mr. Bourita on the sidelines of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly.

Referring to his recent working visit to Rabat, the Paraguayan foreign minister said the visit provided an opportunity to give fresh impetus to cooperation between the two countries, expressing his country’s desire to elevate cooperation with the Kingdom to a higher level.
