U.S. Congressman Michael Lawler, representative of New York, published a post on the platform X after his meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita. In his post, he reaffirmed his commitment to the Moroccan-American partnership as well as to the autonomy initiative in the Moroccan Sahara.
In his message, Lawler stated:
“I thank Minister Bourita for receiving me. We discussed regional security issues, the longstanding and strong relations between the United States and Morocco, as well as the importance of advancing the autonomy initiative in the Sahara.”
The statements of Republican Congressman Michael Lawler highlight the continued support the Moroccan initiative enjoys within the U.S. Congress, as the most serious and realistic solution to end the regional dispute over the Sahara. They also reflect Morocco’s privileged position as a strategic partner for Washington on issues related to peace, security, counterterrorism, and the promotion of stability in the region.
