Polisario Rocket Attacks Near Smara Expose the Terrorist Nature of the Separatist Front

ALDAR/

In yet another act reinforcing the terrorist character of the Polisario organization, the front’s militias launched indiscriminate rocket attacks today, Friday, targeting the outskirts of the city of Smara. According to initial available information, the projectiles fell in an uninhabited area close to the headquarters of the United Nations Mission “MINURSO,” with no reported human or material losses.

The attack, which has caused concern among the local population, comes just one day after U.S. lawmakers from both the Republican and Democratic parties introduced a proposal in Congress calling for the designation of the Polisario as a terrorist organization. This strong political move appears to have unsettled the leadership of the front, which responded in its usual manner: chaos and threats.

Observers believe this escalation reflects the state of confusion within the Polisario, particularly in light of growing international recognition of the legitimacy of Morocco’s autonomy plan and increasing calls to cut off support for armed separatist entities. The attack once again highlights the threat the Polisario poses to regional security and to the political resolution process led by the United Nations.

This violent reaction is a clear indication of the Polisario’s involvement in actions that undermine international peace and security, at a time when influential voices within the global community are pushing to hold it fully accountable for obstructing a peaceful settlement in the Moroccan Sahara.
