The Peruvian Congress has officially adopted a parliamentary memorandum urging the government to explicitly support the autonomy initiative proposed by Morocco and to affirm its full sovereignty over its southern provinces, in accordance with international law and in the interest of promoting peace and regional stability.

This memorandum was drafted by Peruvian Congresswoman Carmen Patricia Juárez Gallegos, based on a set of precise facts, including the historical nature of relations between Morocco and Peru, which date back to 1964 and are founded on mutual respect and bilateral cooperation across various fields.

The memorandum not only expressed support for Morocco’s proposal but went further by warning of the dangers posed by the so-called “Polisario Front.” It highlighted confirmed links between this group and extremist organizations such as Hezbollah, in addition to its involvement in human and arms trafficking networks, and the exploitation of children in the Tindouf camps in Algeria — documented violations that pose a threat to both regional and international security.

In a significant development, the memorandum called on the international community to reassess the status of the “Polisario” and classify it as a terrorist entity, in light of its increasing involvement in illegal activities and dangerous practices that run counter to humanitarian values and international principles.

The Peruvian Congress also reaffirmed the country’s commitment to defending human rights, combating terrorism, and strengthening diplomatic relations with nations that dedicate efforts to security, peace, and development — foremost among them the Kingdom of Morocco, which is now viewed as a strategic partner in North Africa and the Mediterranean region.

This step comes amid growing international support for Morocco’s autonomy plan, with several major countries — including the United States, Spain, and France — recognizing it as the most realistic and effective solution to a decades-old conflict.
