French newspaper “L’Express”: Paris is considering freezing the assets of twenty Algerian officials

The French newspaper L’Express has reported new details regarding measures that the French authorities are considering to take financial actions against several senior officials in the Algerian regime, amid escalating tensions between Paris and Algiers. The newspaper pointed out that the French Ministries of Economy and Interior are closely monitoring the case of freezing financial and real estate assets owned by these officials in France.
This potential measure comes as a response to Algeria’s continued refusal to accept some of its citizens who have been issued deportation orders from French territory, which has further aggravated disputes between the two countries over recent months.
L’Express quoted the French Interior Minister saying there is a possibility of applying individual sanctions targeting “a number of senior Algerian officials who seek to harm bilateral relations,” noting that these sanctions could include freezing their properties and financial assets in France.
