Madrid Reaffirms Its Firm Support for the Territorial Integrity of the Kingdom of Morocco and the Autonomy Initiative in the Sahara

Madrid reiterated on Thursday its unwavering stance in support of the territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Morocco during a joint press conference held in the Spanish capital between Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita and his Spanish counterpart, José Manuel Albares.

During the meeting, the Spanish minister clearly expressed his country’s support for the autonomy initiative proposed by Morocco, describing it as “the most serious, realistic, and credible solution” to resolve the dispute over the Moroccan Sahara. This statement reinforces Spain’s previously declared position on multiple occasions and reflects a positive shift in its foreign policy approach toward the Sahara issue.

The meeting between Bourita and Albares was not limited to political matters; it also served as an opportunity to reaffirm the commitment of both countries to further strengthen cooperation across various fields, including the economy, security, and migration, within the framework of a strategic partnership based on trust and mutual respect.

This Spanish position represents a strong boost to Morocco’s stance on the international stage and reinforces the growing support for the autonomy initiative as a realistic option to resolve the artificial conflict over the Sahara, amid international rejection of unrealistic separatist proposals.

In light of this statement, the growing role of Moroccan diplomacy, under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, is clearly highlighted in mobilizing regional and international support for the national cause and in consolidating Morocco’s position as a reliable partner in the region.
