Algeria Loses Its Mind and Continues to Suffer from the “Chronic Communiqué Diarrhea Syndrome”

By ALDAR / Analysis

In a scene that has become all too familiar and repetitive to the point of boredom, Algeria has unleashed yet another barrage of statements and communiqués—this time in response to the Malian government—in a move that suggests those shaping the policies of the eastern neighbor are gripped by a state of diplomatic hysteria. Algeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has turned into a factory for impulsive declarations, issuing them wholesale whenever a tremor shakes its African surroundings.

The latest Algerian communiqué, issued in a tense and undiplomatic tone, was nothing more than another attempt to distract from the mounting failures of Algeria’s foreign policy, especially in the Sahel region, where the country is steadily losing its strategic position to rising and more pragmatic powers. Instead of self-reflection, the Algerian government chose to accuse Mali of “treason,” a move that reveals more about its internal dilemma than any principled stance on regional politics.

Algeria did not stop at mere verbal retaliation. It went as far as announcing the closure of its airspace to Malian aircraft—an escalation that exposes its frayed nerves and lack of long-term strategic patience in handling disputes between nations.

The decision was based on allegations of airspace violations, which Algeria claimed were documented, though it has yet to provide any concrete evidence to the public.

What is happening clearly shows that the Algerian authorities remain trapped in a rhetoric of conspiracy and betrayal, resorting time and again to threats and escalation, thinking this will grant them regional weight—while the reality proves that with each new communiqué, they lose what little remains of their credibility and stature.

Algeria is in urgent need of putting an end to this “communiqué diarrhea” that is exhausting its international image and confirming that its diplomacy is far from being in good shape—both in terms of regional presence and its ability to build trust with its neighbors.
