The United States Seals Strategic Arms Deals with Morocco

Since the United States officially recognized Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara, affirming its support for Morocco’s territorial integrity, Washington has demonstrated its commitment by announcing the opening of a consulate in the city of Dakhla. This move signaled a tangible shift in U.S. policy toward Morocco.
This strategic transformation in the American stance has come within the broader framework of strengthening bilateral partnerships, extending to advanced military agreements aimed at enhancing the capabilities of the Royal Moroccan Armed Forces.
These agreements include U.S. approval for the sale of four MQ-9 Reaper drones to Morocco. These drones are among the most advanced in the world, offering high capabilities in surveillance, reconnaissance, and precision military operations. Additionally, Morocco has acquired the MIM-104 Patriot PAC-3 air defense missile system, one of the most effective systems for countering aerial and missile threats. This acquisition significantly strengthens the kingdom’s air defense capabilities against potential risks.
In its pursuit of military superiority, Morocco has entered advanced negotiations with Washington to acquire F-35 fighter jets, the latest and most advanced fifth-generation aircraft. If obtained, these jets would provide the Royal Moroccan Air Force with superior offensive and defensive capabilities. The negotiations also include the procurement of KC-135 aerial refueling aircraft, which would extend the operational range of Moroccan fighter jets and enhance their strategic reach.
This development comes amid a reshaping of regional alliances, particularly following the resumption of diplomatic relations between Morocco and Israel. This normalization opens the door for trilateral cooperation in defense, technology, and investment. These changes further solidify Morocco’s position as a key player in geopolitical dynamics and reaffirm the depth of its strategic partnership with the United States, which now acknowledges Morocco’s crucial role in maintaining regional security and stability.
