Morocco is nearing the completion of a strategic road linking Smara to Mauritania: A new corridor that strengthens economic and security cooperation
ALDAR/
Morocco continues to implement its major project aimed at strengthening ties with its neighbor Mauritania, as the construction of the road connecting the city of Smara to the border areas with Mauritania has reached an advanced stage, with an asphalt layer being laid over 53 kilometers.
This road, which is the second of its kind between the two countries after the Guerguerat crossing, represents a significant achievement in enhancing mobility and trade between the two parties.
This new corridor is expected to be an effective solution to support the flow of trade and economic activity between Morocco and Mauritania, as well as contribute to improving connectivity between the countries of the Maghreb region in general. Not only that, but the road will be heavily secured by drones from the Moroccan military to ensure the safety of travelers and trucks passing through this strategic crossing.
According to Mauritanian and French sources, the project will have a positive impact on strengthening cooperation between Morocco and Mauritania in several areas, including security and development projects, reflecting the shared commitment to achieving stability and development in the region.
In this context, experts expect that this new road will play an important role in facilitating movement between North and West Africa, at a time when strategic efforts to connect Morocco with neighboring countries are being reinforced.
