Jibril Rajoub Acknowledges Morocco from Tangier to Lagouira, Supporting the Kingdom’s Territorial Integrity

ALDAR/

In an official statement issued by the Palestinian news agency WAFA on January 9, 2025, a meeting was announced between the Secretary-General of the Central Committee of the Fatah movement, Major General Jibril Rajoub, and the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Morocco to the State of Palestine, Mr. Abderrahim Meziane, in the city of Ramallah. The meeting addressed the latest Palestinian political developments and ways to enhance bilateral cooperation between Morocco and Palestine in various fields, including youth and sports.

During the meeting, Rajoub praised the pioneering role played by the Kingdom of Morocco, under the leadership of King Mohammed VI, Chairman of the Al-Quds Committee, in supporting the Palestinian cause. He also congratulated Morocco on hosting the 2030 FIFA World Cup, commending the Kingdom’s vast capabilities “from Tangier to Lagouira.”

What stood out in this official statement were the clear political messages conveyed by Rajoub’s remarks. The Secretary-General of the Fatah movement explicitly voiced his support for Morocco’s territorial integrity, a stance that serves as a direct response to Algerian circles attempting to exploit his previous statements from July 2023 to suggest a contradictory position regarding the Moroccan Sahara.

It is worth noting that Rajoub had previously stated during an interview on an Algerian television channel, while attending the Arab Games in July 2023, that “a referendum is what determines whether the Sahara belongs to Morocco or Algeria.” These remarks sparked widespread debate in Moroccan circles and were deemed a slip of the tongue, exploited by Algeria to distort his stance on the matter.

However, in his latest statement, Rajoub dispelled any ambiguity and reaffirmed his clear support for Morocco’s position, effectively undermining attempts by certain parties to disrupt Moroccan-Palestinian relations. His recent remarks underscore the historic strength of ties between the two nations and their shared vision in supporting just causes, foremost among them the Palestinian cause and Morocco’s territorial integrity.
