Minister of Industry and Trade Reveals Moroccans’ Preference for Local Products by 62%

During the oral question session at the House of Representatives on Monday, May 20, 2024, Mr. Riad Mezzour, the Minister of Industry and Trade, unveiled the results of a survey showing Moroccans’ preference for local products by as much as 62% over foreign ones. These results affirm the positive response to efforts aimed at encouraging the consumption of local products, which are intended to support the local economy and promote sustainable development.

Mr. Mezzour emphasized the importance of raising awareness about the significance of supporting local products and their role in enhancing the national economy and providing employment opportunities. He noted that these results reflect the Moroccan people’s confidence in the quality and diversity of national products, thus encouraging support for local industries and fostering positive interaction between producers and consumers.

In this context, the Minister stressed the need to continue efforts to enhance marketing and promotion of local products, in addition to incentivizing innovation and development of national industries to meet the needs of both domestic and global markets.

At the end of the session, Mr. Mezzour praised the partnership between the government and the private sector in promoting the country’s industry and achieving self-sufficiency, expressing confidence in the national sector’s ability to achieve further successes and advancements in the future.

It is expected that the government will continue its efforts to encourage the consumption of local products and support national industries through future incentivizing policies and programs, with the aim of achieving sustainable development and boosting the national economy.
