U.S. Congressman Joe Wilson: Regional Peace and Prosperity Are Linked to Morocco’s Sovereignty Over Its Sahara

Influential U.S. Congressman Joe Wilson said on Monday in New York that the United States attaches “great importance” to the role played by Morocco, under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, in promoting peace and stability in Africa. He also praised President Donald Trump’s “leadership” in support of Morocco’s sovereignty over its Sahara.
Speaking to the press following his talks with Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, Wilson said: “We are extremely grateful to His Majesty the King.”
Wilson added that “the United States attaches great importance to the role of the Kingdom of Morocco in achieving stability across Africa,” stressing that Morocco, under the leadership of His Majesty the King, also plays “a leading role in this regard in North Africa.”
The U.S. congressman, who chairs the Morocco Caucus in the U.S. Congress, also praised the progress and achievements made by the Kingdom, particularly in the economic and development fields, as well as in the area of defense.
After commending “President Trump’s leadership in support of Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara,” Joe Wilson said that regional peace, stability and prosperity remain closely linked to the Kingdom’s sovereignty over its southern provinces.
He stressed that “the very concept of peace, stability and prosperity is fundamentally based on Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara.”
The congressman also highlighted the importance of the historic bilateral relations between Rabat and Washington, under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI and His Excellency President Donald J. Trump.
“We greatly admire this country, and, by the way, we have never forgotten that Morocco was the first nation to recognize the independence of the United States of America,” the U.S. congressman said.
