A recent report published by the American site Townhall sheds light on the Polisario Front’s role as an instrument of Iranian influence in North Africa, emphasizing that this separatist movement extends far beyond local political ambitions to become a potential destabilizing actor in the region. According to the analysis, Polisario members have received advanced military training under the supervision of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and its militias operating in Syria, a clear indication of operational links to Tehran’s strategic project.

The report notes that Iran, through the Polisario, seeks to establish a covert presence in the Moroccan Sahara, turning the region into a hub that could connect smuggling networks with extremist groups. This development represents a direct threat to Morocco’s national security and increases security risks for the African continent as a whole, as well as for Europe.

Furthermore, the report reveals that the Front’s slogans, focusing on “human rights” or “environmental issues,” are in reality a cover for Iran’s infiltration strategy, aimed at consolidating strategic footholds in the region.

In light of these findings, the report stresses the need for Morocco and its African partners to enhance vigilance and strengthen international security cooperation. Preventing and neutralizing these threats is crucial for regional stability and the protection of Moroccan territory, while also contributing to continental and international security.
