Interview by: Meryem Hafiani

In an exclusive interview with Al-Dar, Chinese international expert in Wushu Kung Fu, Bernard Sok, offered a comprehensive view of his dual career combining sports and entrepreneurship. He also shared his perspective on Moroccan-Chinese relations and clearly expressed his stance on the Moroccan Sahara issue.

A Global Expert in the Hung Gar Style

Bernard Sok is a prominent figure in the world of Wushu, especially in the traditional Hung Gar style. He maintains a strong partnership with the Royal Moroccan Wushu Federation, regularly overseeing training courses across several Moroccan cities, with the participation of world-renowned experts such as Ken Chung and Guy Lainé. His contributions go beyond technical supervision—he founded schools bearing his name in Morocco, known as “Bernard Sok Schools,” which have played a major role in promoting this martial art within the Kingdom.

A Sports-Rooted Brand

Beyond the sports world, Bernard Sok’s name also carries commercial value through the French brand Bernard Forever, which specializes in producing stylish and comfortable socks. The brand is known for its high-quality products, distinctive designs, and commitment to sustainability and local manufacturing.

Praise for King Mohammed VI and Support for Just Causes

In the interview, Bernard Sok recalled a memorable moment when he met His Majesty King Mohammed VI, then Crown Prince, back in 1984 in Paris at a sports center in the Jean Jaurès area. He expressed great admiration for the King’s personality and leadership, saying: “He is a dynamic man who loves his people and works hard to develop his country economically and socially. He deserves respect for his efforts toward democracy and freedom.”

Strong Support for the Moroccan Sahara

Bernard Sok did not hide his firm stance on the Sahara issue. He voiced full support for Morocco’s territorial integrity, comparing the matter to China’s position on Taiwan. He said: “Just as we in China believe in the principle of one unified nation, I view the Sahara as an inseparable part of the Kingdom of Morocco.”

For a Renewed Sino-Moroccan Cooperation

On the sidelines of his participation in a sports twinning event between Morocco and China, Bernard emphasized the importance of enhancing bilateral cooperation, especially in the fields of education, technology, and student and sports exchanges. “Morocco is a modern country, advanced in both technology and education. Together, we can work hand in hand toward shared development based on a win-win model,” he stated.

He added that the current visit of the Chinese delegation to Morocco reflects a mutual desire to build a strong partnership that supports African countries on multiple levels.

Bernard Sok is not just a renowned name in Wushu or a successful brand — he is also an international voice in support of Morocco, and an example of grassroots diplomacy that connects people through culture, sports, and mutual respect.
