Closure of “Polisario” Representations in These European Countries: A Diplomatic Shift Supporting the Moroccan Sahara

ALDAR/
Several countries have made important decisions to close the representations of the “Polisario Front” on their territories, reflecting significant diplomatic shifts in their positions on the issue of the Moroccan Sahara. Countries such as Finland, Slovenia, and the Netherlands have closed the Front’s offices and prohibited it from conducting any activities without prior authorization, which is considered an important step towards reducing support for Polisario.
Earlier, Ecuador closed the “Polisario” representation on its territory, demanding its members to leave the country. This move supports the growing international trend towards strengthening relations with Morocco and recognizing its sovereignty over the Sahara. On the other hand, Kenya has shown a noticeable shift in its foreign policy, where it has started taking steps to close the Front’s representation in Nairobi and replace it with the opening of a Moroccan embassy.
These diplomatic shifts come in the context of an ongoing development that clearly shows a decline in international support for the “Polisario’s” separatist proposal, and an increase in international recognition of Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara. Experts point out that these decisions reflect current international trends focusing on enhancing security and stability in the region, making positions supporting Sahrawi independence more isolated on the international stage.
